Field of application
Minting gold & silver coins & bars
Product
Coating of structured minting dies

Challenge & Goal
Minting dies for gold and silver coins have to meet different requirements depending on the application:
- With proof coins, the finest details, polished surfaces and flawless finishes count – even the smallest traces of wear or adhesions on the minting die impair the minting quality.
- In the case of bullion coins, on the other hand, the focus is on the extreme number of pieces, whereby abrasion, material structure and the service life of the dies are decisive.
The last coin minted in a mintage should look just as brilliant as the first. Without surface protection, dies have to be regularly reconditioned or replaced, which is associated with high costs and quality risks.
Our solution
Our DLC coatings (2.0) protect minting dies from abrasion and adhesion and at the same time preserve the microstructure of the engraving. As a result, high-resolution structures for optical effects and security features in precious metal can be transferred permanently. Thanks to our near-contour surface coating, minting dies retain their flawless quality over the entire period of use and also serve as protection against corrosion.

Advantages for the customer
- Consistent minting quality: From the first to the last coin – consistent brilliance for proof, reverse proof and bullion coins
- Protection of microstructured engravings: brilliant color and design effects are transferred precisely and consistently
- Maximum service life: longer service life of the expensive minting dies significantly reduces tool costs
- Increase productivity: no need for regular polishing or intermediate preparation of the stamps
- Flexibility in use: proof quality for small print runs, high cost-effectiveness for bullion coins
