Product
Coating of hydraulic expansion mandrels

Challenge & Goal
Hydraulic expansion mandrels must clamp workpieces with high precision and reliability over many production cycles. However, direct contact with the component surfaces leads to material abrasion and wear. The result: reduced clamping force, increased set-up costs and a shortened service life for these expensive clamping devices.
Our solution
Our super-hard DLC 2.0 coatings are free of residual stresses and can withstand elastic expansion of up to 5 % without cracking or coating failure. In combination with excellent sliding properties, they reliably prevent wear and adhesion on the clamping sleeve. As a result, the clamping force remains permanently stable and the service life of the tools increases significantly.

Advantages for the customer
- Greater process reliability and precision machining: Consistently high clamping forces even with large clamping cycles >40000
- Maximum load-bearing capacity: layer follows elastic strains of up to 5 % without damage
- Longer service life: Significant reduction in abrasion
- Enormous cost benefits: Extended service life reduces investment and maintenance costs
- Less downtime: reduction of rejects & rework saves time and operating costs
