Challenge & Goal

Centring tips and other precision tools are exposed to extreme loads in direct contact with workpieces. Friction, material adhesion and micro-damage to the tips lead to faster wear, reduced dimensional accuracy and an increased reject rate. The result: frequent tool changes, rising process costs and losses in production quality.

Our solution

Our super-hard DLC 2.0 coatings are free of residual stresses and can absorb elastic strains of up to 5 % – without cracking or coating failure. Their exceptional sliding properties reliably prevent material build-up and abrasion at the tool tips. As a result, precision, dimensional accuracy and process stability are maintained in the long term, even under high loads.

Advantages for the customer

  • Fewer rejects and longer service life of new and reconditioned tips
  • Maximum load capacity
  • Essential cost benefits – lower tool wear reduces investment and spare parts costs

  • Minimization of storage and logistics costs
  • Reduction of rework such as regrinding and checking of dimensional accuracy and precision

  • Exact concentricity thanks to precise layer thickness

  • Tool life increased by > factor 5

  • No thermal influence on the base material and dimensional stability

  • Suitable for fixed & live centers

  • Substitution of carbide by steel with DLC coating

  • Increase in production quality
